Lisbon, Sept. 16, 2026 (Lusa) - Portugal welcomed 534,379 Brazilian visitors in the first half of the year, up 5.2% year on year, generating record revenue of €657.13 million, according to official figures.

According to official figures from Turismo de Portugal released to Lusa on Wednesday, the number of overnight stays by tourists from Brazil rose by 7% between January and June.

Brazilian tourists accounted for 1.18 million overnight stays during the period under review, and revenue rose by 18.4% compared with the same period in 2025, to €657.13 million.

This figure, according to Turismo de Portugal, is an all-time high for the first half of the year.

In April, speaking to Lusa on the sidelines of the Atlantic Tourism Forum – Portugal & Brazil, organised by the Luso-Brazilian Foundation in São Paulo, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade and Services, Pedro Machado, predicted that the data already available suggests «2026 will break all records» for Brazilian tourists.

Meanwhile, Portuguese tourists have once again overtaken the French as the leading European tourists in Brazil, totalling around 178,000 by July, an increase of 25% compared with the same period last year, the president of the Brazilian International Tourism Promotion Agency (Embratur) told Lusa last week.

«Between January and July 2026, the country [Brazil] welcomed 5,874,981 foreign tourists», and of these «177,956 came from Portugal, a 24.9% increase» compared with the same period in 2025, said Bruno Reis on the sidelines of a TAP event.

The number of Portuguese tourists in Brazil in 2025 reached 273,483, the highest figure recorded since 2007, up more than 25% from 2024.

This figure is surpassed only by the 280,438 recorded in 2007, according to Embratur.

Brazil welcomed 9.3 million foreign tourists in 2025, a record figure and 37.1% higher than in 2024.
