Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Pharma Hovione opens new spray-drying plant in New Jersey

East Windsor, US, Sept. 16, 2026 (Lusa) - The Portuguese pharmaceutical company Hovione has opened a new production facility, covering around 2,900 square metres, at its East Windsor campus in New Jersey, marking the completion of a $100 million (€86.6 million) investment.

In a statement, the group said that this facility «doubles the company's spray-drying capacity in the United States and strengthens its global leadership in this technology».

The opening marks the completion of «a $100 million investment cycle by Hovione in the US and signals the first major milestone in a new phase in the development of the East Windsor campus», whilst the group's vision for the coming decade «involves continuing to expand its operations in the country and consolidating this campus as a next-generation hub dedicated to pharmaceutical development and production».

According to Hovione, the new facility will employ a team of around 80 people.

The company also highlighted that the East Windsor campus «will continue to expand over the next five to ten years, with plans including the development of 6.7 hectares of adjacent land, comprising a production facility of approximately 11,600 square metres, designed to house laboratories and production capabilities for spray drying and commercial-scale finished medicines».

Currently, «Hovione works with 19 of the world's 20 largest pharmaceutical companies and is involved in up to 10% of the medicines approved annually by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)», it noted.
