Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Government forecasts unemployment of 5.8% in2026, 5.7% next year

Lisbon, Oct. 8, 2026 (Lusa) - The government estimates that the unemployment rate will fall to 5.8% in 2026 and 5.7% in 2027, according to the draft State Budget for 2027 tabled in parliament on Thursday.

In the report accompanying the budget proposal, the government notes that «the projected figures for the unemployment rate in 2026 and 2027 are broadly in line with the average forecasts of other institutions, reflecting a dynamic economy and full employment».

The government submitted the draft State Budget for 2027 to parliament on Thursday, ahead of the deadline set by law.

The draft Budget forecasts economic growth of 2.3% this year and 2.1% in 2027, with a balanced budget this year and a 0.1% surplus in 2027.

Parliament will debate and vote on the proposal in general terms between 27 and 28 October. The final overall vote is scheduled for 24 November, following the detailed debate.
