Lisbon, Dec. 8, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market is trading lower on Monday morning, holding its opening trend, pressured by Galp and BCP shares.
At around 10:30 a.m. in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Share Index) was down 0.10% to 8,190.03 points, with nine stocks losing value and seven gaining value.
Oil company Galp was down 1.09% to €17.27 and BCP bank off 0.90% to €0.84.
Also in the red, Altri was falling 1.21% to €4.48, Navigator shedding 0.91% to €3.05, and Corticeira Amorim down 0.76% to €6.54.
With smaller losses, Nos was falling 0.13% to €3.78, Semapa 0.12% to €17.12, Jerónimo Martins 0.10% to €20.06, and EDP 0.08% to €3.84.
In the opposite direction, energy company REN was leading the gains, rising 1.39% to €3.28.
Also rising were Mota-Engil (0.86% to €4.67), Ibersol (0.50% to €10.1), CTT (0.41% to €7.34), Sonae (0.38% to €1.57), Teixeira Duarte (0.29% to €0.68) and EDP Renováveis (0.09% to €11.70).
The main European stock markets were mixed at 10:30 a.m., as investors await the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) decision this week, in which a third consecutive interest rate cut is expected.
For the end of the meeting on the 10th, markets anticipate a further reduction in the interest rate of a quarter of a percentage point (25 basis points). If confirmed, it will be the third consecutive cut.
In Asia, the main Tokyo stock market index, the Nikkei, rose 0.18% on Monday. Meanwhile, the Shanghai stock market benchmark index gained 0.54% and the Hang Seng (Hong Kong) fell 1.23%.
In the United States, Wall Street futures are up slightly today. On Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index gained 0.22%, the Nasdaq technology index rose 0.31% and the broader S&P500 advanced 0.19%.
The price of gold, historically considered a safe haven asset in times of uncertainty, continued to rise, with a gain of 0.18% today, with an ounce trading at US$4,211.49.
Brent crude oil, the benchmark in Europe, rose slightly by 0.16% to US$63.86 per barrel.
In the currency market, the euro is stronger, worth US$1.1658, up from US$1.644 on Friday afternoon.
The cryptocurrency bitcoin rose 1.39% to US$91,683.55.
