Agencia EFE plans to create its own AI chatbot to interact with its entire news base

The spanish news agency EFE plans to create its own chatbot so that the media and other clients can access its entire news archive and interact with this generative artificial intelligence tool, according to Miguel Ángel Oliver, president of the public agency, at the Madrid AI Forum 2024 event, organized by WAN IFRA.

Agencia EFE has several projects in the pipeline for the deployment of generative artificial intelligence, plans that will coexist with the current use of this technology in the day-to-day production of news.

Specifically, the state owned news agency plans to create a chatbot for media and clients that will make it easier to search, interact and synthesize any information from its extensive news base from its newspaper library.

This was announced by Miguel Angel Oliver, president of EFE, during the sectorial event Madrid AI Fórum 2024, organized by WAN IFRA, in the Spanish capital, where he stressed that the application of these new technologies will allow the agency to “celebrate another 80 years”.

EFE's chatbot proposal, as interpreted by Oliver's words, responds to the need to offer interactive access to its newspaper library, allowing users to consult historical news and explore content intuitively in EFE Data.

This project is in line with the Agency's objectives to modernize and optimize the way in which clients consume information, making it more accessible and adaptable to new technologies.

The chatbot will not only make it possible to search for complete news items, but also to interact with the database to obtain summaries or make news correlations. The intention is that this assistant not only facilitates navigation through the archives, but also offers accurate insights and detailed answers to complex queries, with its news as a knowledge base.
