Parliamentary Media Committee supports ATA for a new law

TIRANA, November 11/ATA/ Chairperson of the Committee for Education and Public Information Ina Zhupa said today that, the Albanian Telegraphic Agency is one of the few cases of an institution that has established credibility and offers impartiality.

She made her remarks during the session with the General Director of the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) Valbona Zhupa who made a presentation of the draft budget of this institution for the year 2025 to the members of the Committee for Education and Means of Public Information, Media.

"The institution has created credibility and impartiality", said Ina Zhupa.

"Therefore, I am grateful to you both in the quality of the chair and as a representative of the opposition", said Zhupa.

Secondly, Ina Zhupa continued, ATA still functions according to the decree number 1960 dated 09.11.1954.

"So, it’s crystal clear that the degree is outdated and it is the duty of this committee to draft a new law while we aspire to join the EU", said Zhupa.

Ina Zhupa also emphasized that, "I fully support the budget request of ATA. I also believe that your archive is a national treasure, a national value. I'm delighted you took the commitment to make a calendar and I'm glad every time you make an exhibition and bring the public closer to your materials, your photo, your archive. What you have is the history of Albania".

On her part, MP of the Democratic Party Andia Ulliri levelled some criticism. She said: "I thank the ATA for the work done. I have been part of several very large protests of the
opposition, such as the Thumanë-Kashar road protest and very other sensitive protests, such as the one at the school in Nikël, but I have not seen it reflected in the ATA news".

"I have seen statements of Rama, Balluku, news items on highways that serve the development of tourism, the blue corridor. But, I have not seen a reflection of a protest that has lasted for two months and the fact that there were so many problems related to that protest", emphasized Ulliri.

"So, let's do our best so that this institution remains the point of reference and every news that comes out is of the highest quality level", said Ulliri.
