Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes with PSI down 0.88%, led south by Galp

Lisbon, Oct. 28, 2024 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed lower on Monday, with the PSI index losing 0.88% to 6,455.80 points and Galp leading the declines by falling more than 4% after presenting its results.

Galp, down 4.79% to €15.81, closed the first nine months of this year with a profit of €890 million, an increase of 24% compared to the same period in 2023, the oil company said today in a statement to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

In the third quarter, Galp made a profit of €266 million, 27% more than in the same period in 2023.

The oil company was at the top of the 10 listed companies that ended the session in the red. Five rose and one remained unchanged (Corticeira Amorim, at €8.49).

Greenvolt dropped 3.78% to €8.02, Mota-Engil fell 1.34% to €2.49, EDP Renováveis fell 0.99% to €12.95 and EDP fell 0.35% to €3.75.

Ibersol (€7.12), Semapa (€14.54), REN (€2.32), CTT (€4.18) and Navigator (€3.56) also fell by less than 1%.

On the other hand, Altri rose 0.70% to €5.07, Sonae advanced 0.55% to €0.92 and Jerónimo Martins recorded an enhancement of 0.18% to €16.83.

Helping to stem a larger fall in the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Market Index) were NOS (up 0.14% to €3.61) and BCP (0.07% to €0.42).

On the main European stock markets, Paris rose 0.79%, Madrid 0.77%, Milan 0.69%, London 0.45% and Frankfurt 0.35%.

A barrel of Brent oil (the benchmark in Europe) was trading at US$71.91, down 5.44%, after no oil installations were hit in Saturday's Israeli attack on Iranian territory.
