ZAGREB, 30 Oct (Hina) - The Adriatic Gate Container Terminal in the Port of Rijeka has completed a project of deepening its berth, which will enable the terminal to receive larger transport vessels, the port's executives told a news conference on Wednesday.
Thus the sea depth in the area of one of the terminal's berths has been increased from 11.6 metres to 16.5 metres, with the sea depth along the Kostrensko Pristanište pier being 14.88 metres.
This will facilitate the reception of large-size container ships.
The upgrade was conducted as part of one of nine EU-funded projects.
The project, whose total value is €17.4 million, was approved for funding under the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) Transport Blending call in 2018.
The EU funds covered 20% of the project value and the remaining 80% was provided by the Rijeka Port Authority.
