Lisbon, Oct. 28, 2024 (Lusa) - The average price of natural gas in Portugal for the domestic segment was higher than the European Union (EU) average and the figure recorded in Spain, according to a bulletin from the regulator published on Monday.
According to the Natural Gas Price Comparison Bulletin, published by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), based on data from the European Union Statistics Office (Eurostat), in the first six months of the year, "the average price of natural gas in Portugal, for the domestic segment, was lower than the Euro area average, but higher than in Spain and the European Union average".
In the domestic sector, the country's average stood at €0.1430 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), 31% higher than the €0.0987 per kWh recorded in Spain and 5% higher than the €0.1361 EU average.
In the non-domestic segment, the average price in Portugal (€0.0488 per kWh) was 16 % lower than the EU and Eurozone average (€0.0565 and €0.566 per kWh, respectively), but 14% higher than the average price in Spain (€0.0420 per kWh).
ERSE emphasised that Portugal is among the countries with the highest weight in the taxes and charges component in the domestic segment, while in the non-domestic segment it is among the countries with the lowest weight.
In the first six months of this year, Eastern Europe had the lowest natural gas prices for all domestic consumers (Hungary, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria), while Sweden, Latvia, the Netherlands and Czechia had the highest natural gas prices in the European Union.
In the non-household consumer segment, the lowest natural gas prices were in Bulgaria, Greece, Spain and Lithuania, while Sweden, Finland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands had the highest prices.
