Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market trading higher on Thursday morning, led by Semapa

Lisbon, Aug. 6, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading higher on Thursday morning, with 15 out of 16 companies seeing their share prices rise, led by Semapa, which was up 2.25% to €20.65.

At around 9.10 am in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was up 0.80% at 9,249.24 points, with 15 companies rising and one falling (Teixeira Duarte, down 0.20% to €0.49).

Semapa's shares were followed by those of Navigator, BCP and REN, which rose by 1.48% to €3.30, 1.33% to €1.11 and 1.15% to €3.53 respectively.

Similarly, EDP and Corticeira Amorim both rose by 1.05% to €4.51 and €6.76 respectively, as well as CTT and NOS, which rose by 0.96% to €6.33 and 0.95% to €4.86.

Jerónimo Martins and Ibersol rose by 0.75% to €17.48 and by 0.72% to €9.85.

To a lesser extent, Altri, EDP Renewables and Mota-Engil rose by 0.63% to €4.77, 0.61% to €13.30 and 0.38% to €4.58 respectively.

The other two companies seeing gains were Sonae (up 0.24% to €2.10) and Galp (up 0.18% to €19.91).

In Europe, the main stock markets opened higher today, despite a fall in technology shares and doubts over the possible end to the conflict in Iran, which is driving a further rise in oil prices.

The euro was stable, down 0.07% against the dollar and trading at $1.1545 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.

European stock markets are showing an upward trend today, fuelled by hopes that the United States and Iran will finally reach a peace agreement allowing the Strait of Hormuz to reopen and paving the way for a solution to the Middle East crisis.

Across the Atlantic, Wall Street's main index, the Dow Jones, closed on Wednesday at a new all-time high, up 0.49%.

Dow Jones and Nasdaq futures are mixed, with the former up 0.26% and the latter down 0.24%.

The Nasdaq closed on Wednesday down 0.83%, on a day when SpaceX fell 13.6% after reporting its results.

With optimism over a possible agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, the price of the benchmark Brent crude oil contract in Europe fell by 0.23% to $79.63, whilst that of West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the benchmark in the United States (US), rose by 0.12% to $75.13.

Today, further corporate results will be published, and data on retail sales in the eurozone and weekly claims for unemployment benefits in the United States will be released.
