Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini died on Thursday in his home in the Apennines near Pistoia his family said.
The artist, whose music moved several generations, was 86 years old.
Guccini released his debut album in 1967.
During a career lasting five decades he produced 16 studio and collection albums and and six live albums.
He was also a novelist and an author of scripts for comics.
The family said that, in accordance with Guccini's wishes, the funeral would be a private affair while adding that a memorial service will take place in September to allow those who loved him to bid him farewell.
