Lisbon, July 29, 2026 (Lusa) - Cais do Sodre station, on the Green Line of the Lisbon metro, in the Portuguese capital, will be closed between 8 and 26 August due to construction work on the future Circular Line, the company announced on Wednesday in a statement.
«This closure is necessary to carry out railway signalling work, which is included in the preparation and modernisation of the network for the future Circular Line,» said Metropolitano de Lisboa.
During these days, services on the Green Line will run between Telheiras and Baixa-Chiado in both directions, it added.
The company also noted that, as an alternative means of transport, passengers may use Terreiro do Paço station on the Blue line or use the Carris bus services.
The metro specified that, on the Carris network, the alternatives are routes 760 and 208 (early morning), between Martim Moniz and Cais do Sodré; 728, 735, 781, 782, 206 (early morning) and 210 (early morning) between Praça do Comércio/Terreiro do Paço and Cais do Sodré; 15E, 25E and 774 (evening and weekends) between Praça da Figueira and Cais do Sodré/Corpo Santo; 732, 736 (evening) and 207 (early morning) between Rossio and Cais do Sodré; and 758 between Chiado and Cais do Sodré.
According to the company, the Circular line «will come into service in the first quarter of 2027» and will link Rato to Cais do Sodré, adding more than two kilometres to the current network and two new stations: Estrela and Santos.
The project will link the existing Yellow and Green lines, creating a new circular loop in the centre of Lisbon.
Lisbon Metro emphasised that the new line will facilitate the «connection between rail services on the Cascais Line and river transport at Cais do Sodré, and the city centre, with access to urban rail services to Sintra, Azambuja and Setúbal, as well as regional services at Entrecampos, via a direct metro link without the need to change lines».
According to the company, this investment will increase the use of public transport, reduce dependence on private transport and deliver significant environmental benefits.
Cais do Sodré station will reopen on 27 August.
