TIRANA, July 29 /ATA/ Specialists from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (IKTK) carried out an inspection of the Zoto Bridge, a first-category cultural monument located near the entrance to Vithkuq village in the Korçë region, as part of routine monitoring efforts for protected heritage sites.

The assessment identified conservation challenges and natural factors affecting the monument’s condition, pointing to the need for maintenance and preservation measures. IKTK said it would continue efforts to protect and maintain the site, preserving its authenticity, structural integrity and historical and architectural significance for future generations.

Situated around 300 metres from the centre of Vithkuq, the Zoto Bridge is among the most significant cultural heritage sites in the area. The bridge was designated a cultural monument in November 1984 and is classified as an architectural heritage site. Dating back to the 19th century, it reflects the traditional craftsmanship of stone construction.

The monument is 30 metres long and 3 metres wide. It consists of a main arch measuring around 3 metres in height, while a smaller arch inside the structure reaches approximately 2 metres in height and 1.4 metres in length. The bridge’s curved profile rises to a maximum height of 3.8 metres above the main arch, giving it a distinctive silhouette and notable architectural value.

Alongside its historical and architectural importance, the Zoto Bridge has become a point of interest for visitors exploring Vithkuq, a region recognised for its natural beauty, history and rich cultural heritage. The monument provides visitors with an opportunity to discover a significant element of the Korçë area’s cultural identity while experiencing the connection between the surrounding landscape and traditional architecture.
