Trento is the Italian province where the quality of life is highest, according to il Sole 24 Ore's annual ranking, which the financial daily released on Monday.
Bolzano came second in the newspaper's 36th quality-of-life report while Udine was third.
The index ranks the provinces on the basis of 90 indicators split into six categories: wealth and consumer spending; business and work; environment and services; demography, society and health; justice and security; culture and free time.
As in previous years, the top of the ranking was dominated by northern provinces and southern ones hogged the lower end.
Bologna was fourth, last year's winner Bergamo was fifth, Treviso climbed 18 places to sixth, Verona was seventh, Milan eighth, Padua ninth and Parma 10th.
Reggio Calabria was bottom for the second consecutive year while the while the province of Naples was 104th.
The province of Rome leapt up 13 places to 46th.
