Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes with benchmark up 1.2% in line with Europe

Lisbon, Nov. 12, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed higher on Wednesday, with the PSI index rising 1.21% to 8,293.84 points, in line with other European markets.

Of the 16 companies included in the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Share Index), 12 rose, three fell and Semapa remained unchanged at €17.78.

Leading the gains was energy producer, EDP, which rose 2.82% to €3.83.

EDP insists that it complied with tax rules in the sale of the northern region Douro dams in 2020 and promises to "defend its interests" after learning that the public prosecutor's office is claiming €335.2 million in unpaid taxes on the deal.

In an official statement released today in response to the outcome of the investigation by the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DCIAP) announced last week, the Portuguese electricity company states that "the decision of the public prosecutor's office to close the criminal case comes as no surprise" because, in its view, the group "acted in accordance with the law and market standards in this type of operation".

The investigation into the sale of six power plants by the Portuguese electricity company to the French consortium led by Engie came to an end at the end of October, with the closure of the case being announced on 5 November.

Also noteworthy in today's stock market session were EDP Renováveis, which rose 2.34% to €11.80, BCP bank, which rose 1.99% to €0.81, and retail conglomerate Sonae SGPS, which rose 1.26% to €1.45.

Gains of less than 1% were recorded by Altri (€4.90), Galp (€18.11), Jerónimo Martins (€22.08), Ibersol (€10.35), Mota-Engil (€5.80), Navigator (€3.06), CTT (€7.34) and REN (€3.37).

In the opposite direction, civil engineer and constructor Teixeira Duarte led the declines, falling 0.88% to €0.68.

Cork products manufacturer Corticeira Amorim (€6.58) and telecoms provider NOS (€3.61) also fell by less than 1%.

Elsewhere in Europe, the main indexes in Madrid rose 1.39%, Frankfurt 1.22%, Paris 1.04% and London 0.12%.
