Luanda, Oct. 17, 2025 (Lusa) - The Angolan government said on Friday that the transport sector is consolidating its position as a driver of economic and social progress in the country, connecting different regions and positioning Angola competitively and integrating it within the continent and the world.
According to Angola's Transport Minister, Ricardo de Abreu, since 2018, the sector he heads has formally adopted an integrated approach that is structured and geared towards sustainable development, which has enabled transport to be consolidated as a driver of economic and social progress in the country.
"This sector strategy has also made it possible to efficiently connect different regions of the country and position Angola integrated competitively on the continent and in the world," the minister said today at the opening of the first edition of the "Angola Hub Transport and Logistics Summit 2025".
Transport "is no longer just a service or a means of survival. It has become a strategic element of transformation, signalling the country's ability to turn historical challenges into real opportunities for the future," he said.
With the actions and transformations recorded in the sector, both in regulatory areas and in investments and partnerships, Ricardo de Abreu signalled that "Angola is not just a point on the map," ensuring that the country "is increasingly a turning point in the logistical future of Africa."
According to the Angolan minister, the summit that began today in Luanda and runs until Sunday has a clear mission to increasingly establish Angola as an air, sea, port and rail hub.
The country has the potential to "connect Africa and the world", consolidate sovereignty, "boost economic growth and project the country with continental frequency in this sector of activity", said the Angolan minister, noting that Angola has undergone one of the largest infrastructure reconstruction processes on the African continent.
For Ricardo de Abreu, the activities carried out by the sector over the years "show that transport in Angola is not just a question of mobility today", but "a reflection of the country's ability to plan and implement structured long-term solutions".
He considered it also to be a question of the ability to align infrastructure, strategy and vision, to secure financing and to ensure that every investment in the sector contributes to wealth creation, collective progress and the strengthening of national identity.
Port concessions, the Lobito Corridor - "which has strengthened Angola's geostrategic position at the regional level and definitively changed the way the world's major economic powers view Angola" - and the creation of regulatory bodies were also highlighted by Ricardo de Abreu.
The transport sector "is now a real and significant driver of economic growth and regional integration", with projects that take Angola to a new level, including the construction and operation of António Agostinho Neto International Airport.
The new airport infrastructure, which from Sunday will begin to receive international flights from the Angolan airline TAAG, "is now Angola's gateway to the world, consolidating the country as a regional air hub, attracting investment, connecting people and goods and projecting the country's image internationally," he concluded.
The "Angola Hub Transport and Logistics Summit 2025", a platform for dialogue, business, exhibitions and cooperation, particularly in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, brings together more than 100 Angolan and international companies and 24 start-ups from the region.
The event, organised by the Angolan Government, is being held under the slogan "Connecting Opportunities, Generating Global Value".
