Lusa - Business News - Angola: Almost 1,400 carats of diamonds sold for €13.7M

Luanda, March 13, 2025 (Lusa) - The sale of 1,391.7 carats of diamonds brought in $15.4 million (€13.7 million) for Angola's National Diamond Trading Company (SODIAM), the company announced on Thursday.

In a press release, the Angolan public company said that 36 rough diamond stones produced by the Somiluana, Lulo, Kaixepa, Tchegi, Chitotolo, Luele and Catoca mining companies were auctioned off today in an electronic auction.

The evaluation sessions took place over the last seven days and the amount achieved exceeded the expected value by 18%, with 41 companies from the world's main diamond markets and centres participating in the auction, he added.

Of the total amount raised, the Lulo mines stood out with $3.5 million, Luele with $3.1 million, Catoca with $2.4 million and Chitotolo with $2 million.

The chairman of SODIAM's Board of Directors, Eugénio Bravo da Rosa, quoted in the statement, emphasised "some improvement in terms of demand and prices", which was confirmed in the result obtained in this auction, which "was better than expected".
