Luanda, Feb. 26, 2025 (Lusa) - Angola's Sociedade Nacional de Comercialização de Diamantes (Sodiam), the state diamond trading company, is to auction 36 special diamonds weighing approximately 10.80 carats online, with viewing sessions to take place between 5 and 12 March this year, the company said on Wednesday.
In a news release seen by Lusa, Sodiam states that the auction is being organised in collaboration with Trans Atlantic Gem Sales, a Dubai-based auction house.
The bidding process, which is to close at 10 a.m. Angolan time on 13 March, is aimed at customers registered in Sodiam's database and with experience in the sale of special stones.
The lots include special stones from the following mines: Luele (12 diamonds), Catoca (11), Kaipexa (6), Lulo (3), Chitotolo (2), Tchegi (1) and Somiluana (1).
Angola is the world's fourth largest producer of diamonds, last year turning out around 14 million carats of the gems and earning $1.4 billion (€1.2 billion) from their sale.
