The other places in the top five were taken by the Spanish resort town of Alicante in first place, and the Spanish islands of Lanzarote and Menorca in third and fourth place, respectively. Commenting on the results of the survey, Vangelis Katsaras, Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades, said: "In recent years, Naxos has become an international attraction not only for Europeans, but also for travellers from more distant markets, such as the US and Australia. Our visitors are satisfied with the value for money and impressed by the wide range of options for vacationing on dozens of exotic beaches, touring beautiful picturesque villages, enjoying Naxian cuisine, immersion in the culture and centuries-old traditions, exploring a multitude of ancient monuments and medieval or Byzantine towers, and enjoying sports in nature and our blue-green waters through activities such as hiking, cycling, windsurfing, diving, etc".
