Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes green, bucking Europe trend

Lisbon, Jan. 13, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market ended Monday's session higher, with the PSI index rising 0.49% to 6,330.65 points, in contrast to the main European stock markets.

Of the 15 shares that currently are included in the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Market Index), nine rose, three fell and three remained unchanged.

EDP and Galp stood out among the risers with gains of 2.19% to €3.04 and 1.02% to €16.35, respectively.

Galp announced on Friday, after the market closed, that the company's finance manager, Maria João Carioca, and director João Diogo Silva will take over the leadership of the oil company on an interim basis following the resignation of Filipe Silva.

"Galp informs that its board of directors has unanimously decided to appoint its board members Maria João Carioca (CFO) and João Diogo Marques da Silva (EVP Commercial) as interim co-chairs of the Executive Committee (CEO), accumulating both functions," reads the statement to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

Semapa added 0.84% to €14.36, EDP Renováveis rose 0.78% to €9.08 and Jerónimo Martins advanced 0.22% to €18.37.

Altri (€5.21) and Mota-Engil (€2.72) recorded increases of less than 0.20%.

The three shares that ended in the ‘red’ registered moderate devaluations: Ibersol (-0.52% to € 7.60), Sonae (-0.45% to € 0.89) and Corticeira Amorim (-0.38% to € 7.92).

Three others were unchanged: BCP (€0.48), NOS (€3.26) and CTT (€5.28).

The main European stock markets closed lower, with Milan losing 0.83%, Frankfurt 0.41%, Paris 0.30%, London 0.29% and Madrid 0.28%.
