HINA - Animafest 2025: Georges Sifianos wins award for contribution to animation studies

ZAGREB, 3 Feb (Hina) - Greek scholar, artist and educator Georges Sifianos has been awarded the prestigious Animafest Award for his outstanding contribution to animation studies.

He will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Animafest Scanner XII 2025 scientific conference, scheduled for 3-4 June in Zagreb.

Georges Sifianos' extensive work in animation blends artistic practice with scientific exploration, particularly focusing on animation aesthetics, perception and mental imagery.

A distinguished scholar, Sifianos earned his doctorate in animation aesthetics from the Sorbonne in 1988. He founded the Animation Studies Department at ENSAD in Paris and has taught globally. His work includes pioneering research into animation technology and AI.

He was awarded the McLaren–Lambart Prize in 2014 for his book The Aesthetics of Animated Film. Sifianos also contributed a barbed-wire hat to Animafest, a symbol of his creativity. At the Animafest Scanner XII conference, he will engage with theoretical and practical discourses in animation.

The Animafest Zagreb 2025 festival will take place from 2 to 7 June.
