Aitana González Garrosa, a student from the last year of the master's program, shared with the new students her experience, the coverage she has done during these months of internships and what the master's program has meant to her.
“From the first day you will realize that agency journalism is very different from what we know at university. It is dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging. Don't be surprised if, while you are in class, you hear about an important event such as a helicopter crash, the death of the Pope or a politician's wedding and you have to cover it,” said Aitana González.
And she added: “Thanks to the master's degree and, above all, to the internships, I have developed fundamental skills for agile, truthful and, above all, multimedia journalism. I recommend that you keep this last word, “multimedia,” because it will become essential in your day-to-day work at the Agency, whether you are in Madrid or in any other delegation. Nowadays, truly effective information must be accompanied by images or videos that attract and connect with the public”.
The classes will be taught at EFE's School of Journalism and at the Getafe and Puerta de Toledo campuses by EFE professionals and UC3M academics for the next six months.
Subsequently, starting in June 2025, students will be able to carry out paid internships for another six months at EFE's headquarters and at its national and international offices. Classes at the Aula de la Escuela de Periodismo will allow students to familiarize themselvesfrom day one with the EFE newsroom environment in which they will later carry out their internships.
Students will be in contact from the very first day with the routines of a news agency, through classes with an eminently practical content oriented to the handling of all the news media and with the international vision of the first agency in the world in Spanish.
The Master has the collaboration of Canon, which provides the necessary material for the photography module.
The objective of the Master's Degree in Agency Journalism UC3M-EFE is to train agency journalists with a versatile profile that allows them to develop their work in national and international news agencies.
The agency journalist is nowadays the professional who has more contact with the news and with the sources of information; its function is to provide content to the media, contributing to generate the agenda of the media.
