LAGHOUAT - The National Organization of Algerian Journalists (ONJA) underlined Tuesday that the media sector needs to take a proactive stance in addressing the challenges facing Algeria.
During a national conference organized in the province of Laghouat under the theme “National media facing misleading false information: responsibility and commitment,” ONJA considered that “the acceleration of events on global and regional scales requires the establishment of a strong media system based on reading events, preserving Algeria's interests, and thwarting attempts to harm the homeland via social networks or through those who betray the homeland by aligning with the Makhzen-Zionism or French lobbies, still prisoners of their colonial complex and who do not look favorably upon the orientations of the new Algeria, sovereign in its positions and faithful to its principles.”
“Media security and the fight against misleading false information are a necessity that requires assessing the quality of content offered by Algerian media and involving Algerian elites in efforts to counter the media war,” said ONJA, calling on “national elites and all noble journalists to contribute to the emergence of a popular consciousness capable of grasping the dangers that threaten our dear homeland.'"
The organization emphasized that “maintaining Algeria's unity, stability, and authentic national identity requires fostering pride in our historical roots and cultural and linguistic diversity. This heritage should be a source of pride for all Algerians, promoted through robust national media that can effectively counter foreign attempts to appropriate our cultural heritage.” “The hidden agenda against Algeria has been exposed,” ONJA declared, noting that “the targeted media campaigns, misinformation, baseless rumors, and deceptions flooding social media aim to destabilize our country. These attempts reveal not only plans to downplay our diplomatic achievements but also the deep-seated animosity of those who resent Algeria's role in advocating for truth at the UN and Security Council, particularly regarding the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues.'"
