MAP - China Hosts “Colorful Morocco”, Visual Journey Through Moroccan Cities' Chromatic Richness

Chengdu (China) - November 21, 2024 - (MAP) - A photography exhibition exploring the chromatic richness of Moroccan cities kicked off on Monday in Chengdu, China, attended by several arts enthusiasts and media representatives.

This initiative, held until December 30 under the theme “Colorful Morocco”, is the outcome of six Chinese photographers' trip to Morocco in August 2023, including Wang Qi, founder of the “Dake Art” gallery hosting the exhibition.

Born from a collaboration between the Chinese Embassy in Rabat, the Chinese Cultural Center in Rabat and the China Overseas Development Association, the exhibition features a total of 55 photographs according to five sections: “White Casablanca ”, “Red Marrakech”, “Blue Chefchaouen”, “Ancient Fès” and “Ancient Ouarzazate”.

The shots showcase the mazelike, ochre-colored streets of Marrakech's medina, presenting visitors with the captivating atmosphere of the Majorelle Gardens and with scenes animated by storytellers, musicians and snake charmers in Jemaa el-Fna Square.

At the outskirts of Ouarzazate, photographers focused on the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, exhibiting aspects of the beauty of the citadel beauty built in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural landscape.

In addition, the exhibition also immerses visitors in the alleyways of Fez, exploring tanneries and stores of master craftsmen shaping copper and leather.

Pictures also highlighted different shades of blue on the walls of Chefchaouen's winding alleyways, homes and shopkeepers' stalls.

In Casablanca, photographers were particularly interested in the shimmering buildings overlooking the Atlantic and the reinterpretation of colonial architecture, as well as the Hassan II mosque.

On Wednesday, Wang Qi will host a seminar on the theme of “Enchanting Morocco”. The event will focus on Amazigh, Arab, African and Mediterranean components of Morocco's identity, according to the organizers.
