Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Via verde company wins Netherlands toll tender

Lisbon, Oct. 14, 2024 (Lusa) - The Dutch transport authority has chosen Triangle, a company led by Via Verde, to implement an electronic toll collection system for heavy goods vehicles.

Toll collection will begin in July 2026.

‘RDW, the Dutch transport authority, has chosen Triangle to implement a new electronic toll collection system for heavy goods vehicles that will operate on motorways and some national and municipal roads in the Netherlands,’ Via Verde said in a statement.

Triangle, which also includes Ascendi O&M and Yunex Traffic, will implement and manage the satellite toll collection system.

The lorries will have to be registered on a platform and then pick up the identifier to be able to drive.

The toll is calculated according to the kilometres travelled and the size of the vehicle.

Lusa contacted Via Verde to find out the deal's value, but did not receive a response.

The contract runs for 10 years and can be renewed twice for one year.

According to the same press release, the money raised will be invested in sustainability and innovation projects.

‘The Netherlands has long distinguished itself by being at the forefront of sustainable and efficient mobility solutions. This European tender will surely be an international benchmark and an example for other countries committed to more sustainable and intelligent mobility. We are fully committed to fulfilling this contract and serving the public interest objectives it sets out to achieve,’ said Via Verde's executive chairman, Eduardo Ramos, quoted in the statement.

Last year, Triangle won the temporary electronic toll collection tender in the A24/Blankenburg tunnel in Rotterdam, which will be inaugurated in December.
