TIRANA, Oct 2 /ATA/ The Albanian film The Delegation (Le Dernier Prisonnier), directed by Bujar Alimani, was screened last night at a cinema in the French city of Reims.
The event was organised in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in France and the “7ème Œil” association. It was attended by Albania’s Ambassador to France, Dritan Tola; Montenegro’s Ambassador to France, Dubravka Lalović; and Jessica Larsson, Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in France.
Bujar Alimani’s film offers a poignant portrayal of Albania in October 1990, as the communist dictatorship neared its end and the country stood on the threshold of democratic transformation.
The story follows the arrival of a European delegation in Tirana to monitor the reforms being introduced by the communist regime. Meanwhile, a government official is sent to a remote prison with orders to escort a prominent dissident back to the capital.
Released in 2018 and written by Artan Minarolli, the film won several awards at the Warsaw International Film Festival and was selected as Albania’s entry for the 2020 Academy Awards.
The production features a cast of renowned Albanian and international actors, including Viktor Zhusti as Leo, Xhevdet Ferri as Asllani, Ndriçim Xhepa as Spiro, Richard Sammel as the head of the delegation, Kasem Hoxha as the driver and Tristan Halilaj as the mechanic. The cast also includes Rovena Lule, Bislim Muçaj, Mehmet Xhelili, Armando Dauti, Jorgaq Tushe and Lulzim Zeqja, among others.
