Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes with benchmark index up over 1%, led by BCP

Lisbon, Oct. 11, 2024 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market ended Friday's trading session with a gain in the PSI index of 1.04% to 6,756.08 points, supported by BCP's 3.51% rise.

Of the 16 shares that are included in the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Market Index), 10 were up, five were down and one was unchanged (Corticeira Amorim, at €8.78).

BCP, which led the risers, advanced to €0.43 and, in the opposite direction, Sonae fell 0.84% to €0.95.

Supporting the PSI's rise, CTT advanced 2.49% to €4.32, Navigator rose 1.81% to €3.82, Galp added 1.21% to €17.10 and Jerónimo Martins gained 0.98% to €17.43.

Mota-Engil and REN recorded increases of 0.63% and ended at €2.55 and €2.40 respectively.

With more moderate rises were NOS (€3.59), Ibersol (€7.26) and Greenvolt (€8.31).

On the downside, Semapa fell 0.13% to €14.98, Altri dropped 0.10% to €5.15, EDP Renováveis fell 0.07% to €14.32 and EDP recorded a slight negative variation of 0.03% to €3.86.

The main European stock markets also closed higher, with Frankfurt up 0.85%, Milan 0.68%, Madrid 0.54%, Paris 0.48% and London 0.19%.

The New York stock market boosted the gains of the European stock markets, following the presentation of results from financial companies. In the middle of the session, the Dow Jones index was up 0.66% and the Nasdaq 0.21%.
