CNA - Agriculture Minister to attend event in Dijon for Cypriot Commandaria wine

An event to celebrate the 800 years of Commandaria, the traditional Cypriot dessert wine, is organised by Cyprus and France in the French city of Dijon between October 14-16. Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Maria Panayiotou will address the event as she will attend a wine ministerial summit in the city.

In a press conference, Panayiotou said that the event, which is taking place in the framework of the 45th World Congress of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, celebrates Commandaria as the oldest branded quality wine in the world and an integral of Cypriot heritage.

She said that this is a unique opportunity to showcase this Cypriot product at an international level, while at the same time highlighting the role of Cyprus as a culinary destination with the contribution of products such as halloumi cheese.

The Wine Ministerial Summit is organised by France on the occasion of the celebration of 100 years since the establishment of the World Congress of the International Organization of Vine and Wine and the recent relocation of the Organization's headquarters from Paris to Dijon.

Ministers of Agriculture from the 50 member states of the congress will participate and will have the opportunity to exchange views on the future of the wine sector, the congress’ supporting role in light of economic, social and climate challenges, the Minister said.

She added that together with the Deputy Minister of Tourism they will attend and address the special event about Commandaria, co-organised with France.
