Brussels, Sept. 4, 2024 (Lusa) - Portugal's industrial production posted the third highest year-on-year increase among European Union member states in July, at 2.0%, even as overall production in the euro zone down 2.1% on a year earlier and in the EU down 1.9%, Eurostat announced on Wednesday. 

According to the data from the EU statistical office, compared to June, industrial production was up 0.8% on the month in both the euro zone and in the 27-member EU as a whole.

By member state, the largest year-on-year declines were in Slovakia (-18.9%), Luxembourg (-6.7%) and Latvia (-6.0%), while the largest increases were in Ireland (6.1%), Romania (2.7%) and Portugal (2.0%).

In terms of the month-on-month change, the biggest rises in industrial production were in Bulgaria (3.6%), Greece (2.9%) and Romania (2.7%) and the largest drops in Sweden (-0.9%), Finland (-0.7%) and Austria (-0.2%).

In Portugal, the industrial production indicator was up 1.3% in July from June.
