Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lisbon stock market closes almost 1% lower

Lisbon, Sept. 3, 2024 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed lower on Tuesday, with the PSI index losing 0.99% to 6,706.82 points, in line with the main European exchanges.

Of the 16 listed companies that make up the PSI, four were up, 10 were down and two were unchanged.

Galp recorded the biggest drop on the PSI, falling 4.12% to €18.03. Jerónimo Martins stood out among the risers, advancing 1.74% to 16.95 euros.

Sonae rose 0.74% to €0.96, Ibersol 0.56% to €7.24 and NOS 0.28% to €3.56.

With the biggest falls, BCP lost 2.24% to €0.41, Altri 1.79% to €4.83, Navigator 1.61% to €3.66 and Semapa 1.25% to €14.20.

Mota-Engil (€3.05), CTT (€4.41), Greenvolt (€8.30), EDP (€3.80) and EDP Renováveis (€14.38) all lost less than 1%.

REN (€2.38) and Corticeira Amorim (€9.04) ended unchanged.

In the rest of Europe, Milan fell by 1.33%, Madrid by 1.02%, Frankfurt by 0.97%, Paris by 0.93% and London by 0.78%.

The New York Stock Exchange was also in the red in the middle of the session, accentuating the falls in the three main indices compared to the opening. The Dow Jones was down 1.09%, the Nasdaq by 2.40% and the broader S&P 500 index by 1.49%.

At 17:30, a barrel of Brent oil for November delivery was down 4.44% at $74.08.
