Lusa - Business News - Angola: State to sell stakes in Standard Bank, BODIVA and ENSA by November

Luanda, Juy 2, 2024 (Lusa) - Angola will reduce its holdings in the insurance company ENSA, Standard Bank and the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA) by November this year, leaving the telecommunications company Unitel until 2025.

The information was published on the Angolan government website on Tuesday after being put forward by the deputy coordinator of the National Interministerial Commission for the Privatisation Programme (PROPRIV), Ottoniel dos Santos, on Monday.

By November, the state intends to sell 34% of the 49% stake it holds in South African Standard Bank, 24% to the partner shareholder and 10% on the stock exchange, keeping 15% in the state sphere.

By then, it also plans to sell 30% of its stake in the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA) and the Angolan National Insurance Company (ENSA).

"This is the proposal that the Commission will submit to higher authorities in order to move forward," said Ottoniel dos Santos, indicating that the process for BODIVA will be a sale, while in the case of ENSA it is intended to carry out a privatisation on the stock exchange.

At a meeting where these decisions were taken, the commission analysed the balance of the Privatisation Programme and the proposed privatisation strategy for a number of assets over the course of this semester and 2025, including the sale of Unitel.

According to the Commission's deputy coordinator, the proposal is to sell 15% of the state's stake in UNITEL by the beginning of the second half of 2025.

On the same occasion, Ottoniel dos Santos announced that the privatisation strategy for the state's indirect stake in Banco Fomento Angola (BFA) had also been considered.

"This stake will be sold by the first quarter of 2025 and will be up to 30% of the combined stake of the state and the shareholder partner."

Initially planned for the 2019-2022 period, with a total of 195 public assets to be privatised, PROPRIV was extended to the 2023-2026 period by Presidential Decree no. 78/23 of 28 March.
