HINA - Croatia's Hum gold coin breaks Guinness record as world's smallest coin

ZAGREB, 27 June (Hina) - The Hum gold coin, minted by the Croatian Mint, on Thursday broke the Guinness record as the world's smallest commemorative coin, measuring only 1.99mm in diameter and 0.05g in weight.

A Guinness World Record Certificate was presented to the Croatian Mint by Guinness World Records adjudicator Victor Fenes, who said that Croatia now holds the record for the world's smallest coin. The previous record was held by Switzerland, with a gold coin of 2.96mm in diameter and a motif of Albert Einstein.

Croatian Mint director Robert Blaić said that the company has been operating for 30 years, minting circulation coins and investment gold and silver coins.

"The smallest coin in the world is a gold coin with a denomination of one kuna, measuring only 1.99 millimetres in diameter and 0.05 grams in weight. It features the Croatian heritage motifs of Hum, the smallest city in the world, and Boškarin (a native cattle breed originating from Istria)," Blaić said, adding that the gold coin was issued in a series of only 199 pieces.

The Hum gold coin was issued by the Croatian National Bank and minted by the Croatian Mint in late 2022. It was designed by young artists Ana Divković and Nikola Vudrag.

The set originally sold in one day for 22,000 kuna (2,900 euros) and now it sells for over 7,000 euros.
