Lisbon, Sept. 29, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading slightly lower on Tuesday morning, with Mota-Engil falling 1.14% to €5.19 and BCP rising 2.56% to €1.24.
At around 9.30 am in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was down 0.05% to 9,707.60 points, with 10 companies falling, five rising and one remaining unchanged (Semapa at €20.60).
Mota-Engil's shares were followed by those of Jerónimo Martins, Galp and NOS, which fell by 0.94% to €17.95, 0.70% to €22.76 and 0.56% to €5.36 respectively.
EDP fell by 0.48% to €4.80, whilst Corticeira Amorim and REN both fell by 0.42% to €7.09 and €3.56 respectively.
Navigator, Sonae and EDP Renewables fell by 0.37% to €3.24, 0.24% to €2.12 and 0.23% to €12.74 respectively.
On the other hand, in addition to BCP, Ibersol and Teixeira Duarte rose by 0.80% to €10.12 and by 0.71% to €0.50 respectively.
The other two companies whose share prices rose were CTT (up 0.32% to €6.26) and Altri (up 0.21% to €4.74).
In Europe, the main stock markets opened higher today, once again keeping a close eye on the trend in oil prices, which are rising, and sovereign bond yields, which remain on the rise.
The euro was weaker against the dollar, depreciating by 0.19% and trading at $1.1349 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.
The price of the benchmark Brent Crude Oil contract in Europe rose by 0.71% to $106.03 per barrel.
Meanwhile, the yield on the 10-year US Treasury note fell to 5.225%, though it remained above 5%, whilst the yield on the 10-year German government bond also fell, but to 3.608%.
Investors are keeping a close eye on developments in the Middle East, after Iran's minister of foreign affairs, Abbas Araqchi, said he was awaiting a response from the United States following indirect talks held the previous day via Qatari mediators in New York to reach an agreement to end the war.
A key highlight of today's session is the inflation data from Spain, which soared to 4.9% in September – the highest rate since February 2023 (6%) and six tenths of a percentage point higher than in August – due mainly to rising costs of fuel and lubricants for private vehicles and package holidays.
In the eurozone, the September confidence surveys will be released today, whilst in the US the highlight is the Conference Board's September consumer confidence survey.
US index futures are showing slight declines of 0.10% for the Dow Jones and 0.11% for the technology-heavy Nasdaq, having closed lower on Monday.
