Lisbon, Sept. 25, 2026 (Lusa) - Portugal's president, António José Seguro, promulgated a decree on Friday extending exceptional, temporary support measures for various sectors in response to rising fuel prices, and another amending the green rail pass.

A statement published on the Presidency's website states that the decree amending «Decree-Law No. 80-A/2026 of 31 March, extending the exceptional and temporary support measures to compensate for the rise in fuel prices granted to the agricultural, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture sectors» has been promulgated.

The government approved, in cabinet, extending support for agricultural diesel until the end of the year, at an estimated cost of 15 million euros, as well as aid for the fisheries sector.

This amended the decree-law approved at the end of March, which had established exceptional and temporary compensation measures to offset the surge in fuel prices resulting from the conflict in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced the extension of the 10-cent agricultural subsidy, which had been in force until 30 June and will now run until the end of the year.

The president also enacted a decree amending the law that created the green rail pass, «extending its scope to include urban transport services».
