Lisbon, Sept. 2, 2026 (Lusa) - The main Portuguese stock market index, the PSI, reversed its opening trend on Wednesday, down 0.24% after an hour and a half of trading.

At 9:40 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI stood at 9,455.39 points, with six shares up, seven down, and Mota-Engil, NOS and Semapa holding steady at €4.80, €4.98 and €20.75 respectively.

EDP Renewables led the way, rising by 1.38% to €13.58; it was the only one of the 16 index constituents to show a change of 1% or more.

Following this were CTT, down 0.69% to €6.51; EDP, down 0.49% to €4.70; and Ibersol, down 0.39% to €10.20.

Also in the red were Galp (down 0.28% to €21.56), Corticeira Amorim (down 0.14% to €7.06) and Altri (down 0.11% to €4.74).

Conversely, gains were led by Teixeira Duarte, which rose 0.83% to €0.49, ahead of Jerónimo Martins (+0.72% to €18.24).

Both Sonae and BCP rose by 0.49% to €2.04 and €1.12 respectively, whilst REN advanced by 0.14% to €3.50 and Navigator gained 0.12% to €3.27.

The fallout from the latest attacks between the United States and Iran has affected European stock market performance, after US Central Command reported that the US had struck targets belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to the US Central Command, the attacks were carried out «in response to recent attempts by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against members of the US armed forces deployed in the region».

Iran subsequently claimed responsibility for attacks on US military bases in Jordan, Iraq and Bahrain.

These events led to a rise in the price of Brent crude, the benchmark for Europe, which on Tuesday rose by 4.6%, adding a further 0.21% to reach $ 94.85.

The euro was moving away from $1.16 and trading at €1.1573, whilst gold fell by 0.04% to $4,326.5 and silver held steady at $64.08.

Bitcoin, meanwhile, rose by 0.25% to $77,605.

On Tuesday, Wall Street closed with the Dow Jones down by 0.79%, the S&P 500 down by 0.71% and the Nasdaq down by 1.03%.
