Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stocks rally with energy utilities leading the way

Lisbon, Aug. 28, 2026 (Lusa) - The PSI, Portugal's main stock market index, was rising on Friday morning and maintaining its opening trend, in line with movements seen on other European markets, with energy stocks leading the way.

At 9:45 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI was up 0.72% to 9,457.07 points, with 13 stocks rising, one stock experiencing a decline, and Sonae and Jerónimo Martins unchanged at €2.01 and €18.00, respectively.

Energy stocks led the gains, with EDP Renewables rising 1.02% to €13.87, Galp gaining 1.01% to €20.92 and EDP rising 0.99% to €4.71.

These were followed by NOS, which rose by 0.83% to €5.01, BCP, which advanced by 0.81% to €1.12, and Corticeira Amorim, which climbed by 0.61% to €7.07.

CTT rose by 0.61% to €6.63, Ibersol by 0.58% to €10.48, Navigator by 0.55% to €3.29 and Altri by 0.53% to €4.74.

At that time, shares rising by less than 0.50% included Semapa (up 0.48% to €20.80), Teixeira Duarte (up 0.42% to €0.48) and Mota-Engil (up 0.21% to €4.83).

REN was the only listed company to slip in value, falling by 0.28% to €3.50.

The main European stock exchanges were trading in positive territory today as markets watched for the speech by Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole.

The markets continue to await the Fed chairman's address at the Jackson Hole meeting in the US state of Wyoming, looking for any indication of a possible rise in key interest rates.

Although there were no new developments regarding the resumption of negotiations between the US and Iran, the price of a barrel of Brent crude fell by 0.80% from the previous day to $88.98 (around €76.70).

In the foreign exchange market, the euro was trading at $1.1645, whilst bitcoin was approaching $80,000 ($79,768.92).

In the metals market, both gold (0.12%) and silver (1.59%) rose, reaching $4,600.7 and $70.29, respectively.
