Luanda, July 31, 2026 (Lusa) — Angolan flag carrier TAAG has launched a dedicated cargo route to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, with the first flight taking place on 24 July, the Angolan airline announced on Friday.

According to a company statement, the first service, operated by a Boeing 737-800 Freighter, carried 12.8 tonnes of cargo from Amsterdam, including machine parts, IT equipment and other high-value goods.

Initial demand confirms the route's potential, with cargo loads of 14 and 16 tonnes already planned for subsequent operations, TAAG said, adding that the service to Lusaka will initially operate once a week as part of its growth strategy in the African freight market.

TAAG also stated that the operation contributes to the «Airlift Zambia» initiative, which aims to improve export conditions for products such as beef, poultry and vegetables, and plans to expand its cargo network in the fourth quarter of 2026 with the launch of a route to Libreville, in Gabon.

With this new route, the company's cargo division will now offer dedicated services to Lagos (Nigeria), Brazzaville (Congo), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Accra (Ghana), Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Nairobi (Kenya), Johannesburg (South Africa) and Lusaka (Zambia).

The new route is part of the North-South logistics corridor developed by the carrier and, according to the company, includes a gateway for goods from Europe, China and Brazil bound for the African continent.
