Lisbon, July 31, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading steadily on Friday, with BCP up 1.27% to €1.08 and REN down 1.70% to €3.46.
At around 9:30 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI was up 0.01% at 9,146.54 points, with eight companies rising and the other eight companies falling.
On Wednesday, BCP announced that it had posted a profit of €565.8 million in the first half of the year, an increase of 12.7% compared with the same period last year, and on Thursday, REN announced that it had posted a profit of €93.4 million in the first six months of the year, an increase of 42.1% compared with the same period last year.
Traders followed BCP's shares with those of EDP Renováveis, Corticeira Amorim and Mota-Engil, which rose by 1.04% to €13.59, 0.61% to €6.64 and 0.51% to €4.70 respectively.
Ibersol, EDP and Teixeira Duarte rose by 0.42% to €9.60, 0.16% to €4.45 and 0.10% to €0.50 respectively.
Navigator also rose, up 0.06% to €3.46.
Meanwhile, in addition to REN, Jerónimo Martins fell by 1.59% to €17.29, as did Sonae (-1.45% to €2.04) and NOS (-0.41% to €4.83).
To a lesser extent, CTT fell by 0.32% to €6.15.
Other companies trading lower included Altri (-0.31% to €4.76), Semapa (-0.30% to €19.80) and Galp (-0.23% to €19.56).
In Europe, the main stock exchanges opened today for the final session of July with gains of over 0.80%, driven by the strong performance of technology companies, which saw the Nasdaq close up by almost 3% on Thursday.
The euro has fallen by 0.09% against the dollar, trading at $1.1518 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.
Following US President Donald Trump's announcement of an agreement on the complete disarmament of Hamas, the price of the benchmark Brent crude oil contract in Europe has fallen by 0.89% to $88.24.
In addition to the disarmament of Hamas, Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday the creation of the Multinational Maritime Defence Alliance, an international coalition tasked with ensuring the security of trade and energy supply routes in the Red Sea, amidst attacks by groups allied with Iran on shipping in this waterway.
Before the close of Asian stock markets, reports indicated that the Bank of Japan had decided to keep interest rates unchanged, following the decisions taken by the US Federal Reserve on Wednesday, the European Central Bank last week, and the Bank of England on Thursday.
In New York, the Dow Jones and the Nasdaq closed up 1.19% and 2.78% respectively on Thursday, whilst futures are up 0.56% for the former and 1.07% for the tech index.
Today's macroeconomic calendar includes the release of July's inflation figures for the eurozone, France and Italy, as well as Germany's unemployment rate for the same month and France's Producer Price Index (PPI) for June.
In the US today, the Chicago PMI for July and the final reading of the University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index will be published.
