Lisbon, July 27, 2026 (Lusa) - Portuguese energy company Galp has purchased 15 wind farms in Spain for €420 million, with a total installed capacity of 361 megawatts (MW) and an estimated annual electricity generation of 800 gigawatt-hours (GWh), the company announced on Monday.

In a statement sent today to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM), the oil company highlights that this investment strengthens its position in the Iberian renewable energy market, increasing the company's installed renewable capacity to 2.7 gigawatts and annual electricity generation to 5 terawatt-hours, whilst raising the share of wind power to around 30% of its renewable generation mix.

As detailed in the statement, Acciona Energía sold the assets to Galp, and their average date of entry into commercial operation is 2005; they are «fully operational».

The portfolio comprises 15 wind farms spread across various regions of Spain, «with good wind resources and a proven operational track record».

Quoted in the press release, Georgios Papadimitriou of Galp said that the deal «strengthens the quality and diversification» of the company's renewable portfolio in the Iberian Peninsula, «adding assets with a solid operational track record and complementary generation profiles».

«It is another step in our strategy of disciplined growth for our electricity business,» he said.

In April, Galp announced the acquisition of another 351 megawatts wind portfolio in Spain, also already in operation and comprising assets located in the regions of Aragon, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia.

With the two transactions totalling an investment of €740 million, the company highlights that this year it will add more than 700 megawatts of wind power capacity to its portfolio, spread across 32 wind farms in Spain, «strengthening its low-carbon electricity generation capacity in the Iberian Peninsula».
