Italy's second-biggest bank UniCredit said Thursday that it made a net profit of 6.3 billion in the January-June period, the largest first-half profit in is history.
    It said profit amounted to 2.9 billion euros in the second quarter, beating estimates.
    As a result, the bank said it expected to make a profit "well above 11 billion euros" this year, having previously set its guidance close to this figure.
    Speaking to Class CNBC, CEO Andrea Orcel denied being in negotiations with Delfin to take up a stake in Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the target of a takeover bid by Intesa Sanpaolo.
