Lisbon, July 8, 2026 (Lusa) - The transport of cattle by road from Portugal to Morocco, via the port of Algeciras, Spain, has been authorised, according to Portugal's Food and Veterinary Affairs Agency (DGAV).
“[…] We hereby inform you that it will now be possible to transport cattle by road from Portugal to Morocco via the port of Algeciras,” reads a statement released by the DGAV.
This authorization comes after Spanish authorities reported that a control post is now available in the Andalusia region, in Jerez de la Frontera.
This checkpoint is authorized for adult cattle and unweaned calves.
According to the DGAV, since the distance between the checkpoint and the point of departure at the seaport of Algeciras is less than two hours, it is now possible to transport cattle by ferry from other member states and to undertake long-distance road trips.
