Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes down 0.60% as European markets end in red

Lisbon, April 29, 2026 (Lusa) – The Portuguese stock market closed down on Wednesday, losing 0.60% to 9,209.54 points, with Ibersol and EDP Renováveis dropping more than 2% amid a negative trend across Europe.

Of the 16 shares in the main PSI (Portuguese Stock Index), nine closed in the red. Ibersol led the losses, falling 2.38% to €11.50, followed by EDP Renováveis, which lost 2.26% to €13.84. Seven shares recorded gains, with Teixeira Duarte rising 3.26% to €0.44.

In Europe, losses ranged from -1.20% in London (FTSE 100) to -0.25% in Frankfurt (DAX).

Shares losing more than 1% in Portugal included REN (-1.72% to €3.71), EDP (-1.67% to €4.54), and CTT (-1.16% to €6.38). NOS (-0.89% to €5.55), Jerónimo Martins (-0.88% to €20.20), Corticeira Amorim (-0.31% to €6.36), and BCP (-0.22% to €0.89) closed with smaller losses.

In positive territory, alongside Teixeira Duarte, construction firm Mota-Engil saw its shares appreciate 2.05% to €4.77, followed by Galp Energia, which gained 1.60% to €19.96. Semapa rose 0.30% to €4.97, Navigator climbed 0.12% to €3.32, and Sonae ended just above the water line with gains of 0.10% to €1.93.

Rising oil prices affected European markets amid rumours that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz will continue.
