Toronto, April 2, 2026 (Lusa) - Portugal's Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP) leads a delegation to the Electric Vehicle (EV) & Charging Expo 2026 in Toronto from 8 to 10 April to position Portuguese companies in North America's sustainable mobility market.
Canada's electric vehicle sector is growing rapidly, driven by federal decarbonisation goals and public transport electrification incentives.
Portugal is showcasing its industrial capacity, the development of charging infrastructure and software solutions for clean mobility at this fair, seeking to strengthen its international presence in this sector.
The country’s stand (number 406) will serve as a base to promote the country's economy to international investors and decision-makers.
On 9 April, the Portuguese delegation will take to the fair’s main stage with the presentation “Portugal: Turning e-mobility transformation into traction”, dedicated to the promotion of the country’s competitive advantages in the sector.
In parallel, AICEP has organised a programme of institutional and business meetings with leading entities from Ontario’s innovation ecosystem.
Scheduled meetings include the Ontario Centre of Innovation and the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network to link technology and industrial clusters in the two countries.
The agenda includes a networking event for the delegation and Canadian guests in Toronto on Thursday to stimulate bilateral partnerships.
Technical visits to the University of Toronto Electrification Hub and Plug'n Drive on the final day focus on identifying research, development, and education cooperation opportunities.
The fair expects more than 3,000 participants and 100 exhibitors, including battery manufacturers, power grid operators, and technology suppliers.
The mission aims to increase exports and attract investment, highlighting Portugal as a gateway to the European market.
Portugal's i-charging also has its own stand, boosting industry visibility.
Electric Autonomy (a platform for electric vehicle news and events) is organising the Electric Vehicle (EV) & Charging Expo, a top North American electric mobility platform for public and private sectors.
AICEP said the participation “intends to consolidate the internationalisation of Portugal's economy and reinforce company competitiveness in a rapidly transforming sector”.
