Lisbon, March 30, 2026 (Lusa) – Average weekly fuel prices in Portugal fell for petrol but rose for diesel, which remains above €2 per litre, according to the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE).
The regulator calculated that for the week of 30 March to 5 April, the regulated price – a benchmark used to assess if market prices reflect cost developments – is €0.991 per litre for 95 petrol and €1.356 for diesel before taxes.
After taxes, prices reach €1.976 per litre for 95 petrol and €2.232 for diesel.
"The regulated price fell 1.2% for petrol and rose 1.8% for diesel compared to last week, considering international petrol prices fell 2.7% and diesel rose 3.3%," ERSE said.
Regulated prices result from the average international prices of the previous week, plus logistics costs, retail margins, and taxes. The regulator uses these to assess whether market prices reflect cost changes.
Average retail sale prices (PVP) reported to the One-Stop Shop for Energy (a Portuguese public portal for fuel prices) were 3.3 cents per litre below the regulated price for petrol and 10.3 cents lower for diesel compared to last week.
ERSE said these differences represent deviations of -1.7% and -4.9%.
Discounted prices published by the national energy authority, showed petrol and diesel were 3.6% and 6.4% below the regulated price.
In absolute terms, these estimates are 7.2 cents per litre lower for petrol and 13.1 cents lower for diesel than their respective regulated prices.
Recent price hikes follow international volatility, intensified by Middle East tensions. This includes the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, where about 20% of global oil production and almost 20% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) passes.
