Lusa - Business News - Angola: Seeking China's support to enter Hong Kong financial market

Luanda, March 24, 2026 (Lusa) - Angola's finance minister is in China seeking support to enter the Hong Kong financial market for debt issuance in the Asian market, Luanda announced on Tuesday.

Finance Minister Vera Daves de Sousa is on a working visit from the 23rd to the 27th of this month to strengthen financial, economic, and technological cooperation between the two countries. She met with officials from the China Development Bank, Exim Bank, and the president of the New Development Bank, with whom she discussed Angola's potential accession to the institution.

The minister also met with the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, Paul Chan Mo-po, to discuss initiatives to support the country's entry into the Asian financial market, including coordination with local financial institutions and strengthening cooperation.

According to the statement, the visit's objectives include expressing the Angolan market's openness to Hong Kong financial institutions, exploring debt issuance in the Asian market, and promoting personnel exchange and training in debt and public finance.

The statement further noted that the nation sought support for capital market development. On a technical level, Vera Daves de Sousa will meet with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, including its London representation, as well as the Bank of China.

The minister will also visit Huawei's campus in Shanghai to reinforce the technological cooperation currently under development between the parties.
