In February alone, according to data released Thursday by the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur), the country recorded 1,287,800 international visitors. Portuguese tourism grew the most among all foreign tourists.
In the first two months of the year, the number of Portuguese citizens visiting Brazil increased by 29.7% compared to the same period last year. This was followed by Germany with a 17% increase, the United Kingdom (+14.5%), and France (+8.6%).
During the week of Carnival alone in February, "the country received 300,000 foreign visitors, a 17% growth compared to 2025," Embratur indicated. "The volume represents about 30% of all international movement for an entire month concentrated in just seven days, and Rio de Janeiro is one of the key states for this mark," according to the Brazilian agency. Revenue generated by international tourists during the 2026 Carnival reached nearly US$186 million (€160 million) across Brazil.
