There was a significant drop in the number of bad cheques issued in February this year compared to the same month last year, as 8 checks of a total value of €47,460that bounced were issued, compared to 34, according to data published on Thursday by the Central Bank of Cyprus regarding entries in the preliminary list of the Central Information Register (CIR) for issuers of dishonoured cheques.
Specifically, in February 2025, 34 bad cheques were registered of a total value of €42,493, while in February 2024, 16 cheques were registered of a total value of €19,388.
During the period January-February 2026, according to CBC data, 25 cheques that bounced were registered in the preliminary CIR list, with a total value of €94,551, compared to 50 checks in the corresponding period last year, with a total value of €84,555.
The bad cheques issued in the period January-February 2026 concerned a total of 19 persons (14 legal and 5 natural).
Furthermore, according to CBC data, the number of persons registered in the CIR in February 2026 amounted to 7, of whom 3 were legal entities, 1 was a natural person, and 3 were natural persons controlling legal entities.
During the period January-February 2026, a total of 17 persons were registered in the CIR, compared to 18 persons in the corresponding period of 2025.
