TIRANA, March 12 /ATA/ Protected areas in the country are attracting an increasing number of visitors passionate about nature and ecotourism. Hiking on mountain trails, birdwatching, and enjoying the landscapes of lagoons and lakes are some of the experiences attracting the attention of tourists in these natural destinations.
The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Sofjan Jaupaj, announced that over 400,000 visitors explored Albania’s protected areas during the first two months of this year.
According to him, this figure represents approximately 42,000 more visitors compared to the same period last year, confirming the increasing interest in nature-based tourism and outdoor experiences.
“From the mountains and national and natural parks to the lagoons and distinctive landscapes, protected areas are gaining popularity among both local and international visitors,” Jaupaj stated.
He emphasized that the increase in visitor numbers represents both a priority and a greater responsibility for the relevant institutions, particularly the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and the administrations of the protected areas on the ground, to ensure sustainable management and the preservation of natural assets.
According to him, the development of ecotourism remains one of the key avenues for promoting sustainable tourism and for valuing the natural assets that Albania offers.
