Evora, Portugal, Feb. 9, 2026 (Lusa) - A total of 17 producers are representing Portugal's Alentejo region wines at the Wine Paris event in the French capital, considered "one of the most influential international stages in the wine sector," according to the CVRA.
In a statement, the Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA) explained that the region is in the spotlight at the event, which runs until Wednesday, bringing together decision-makers, buyers and distributors from around the world.
"The Alentejo region is showcasing itself as a benchmark region, bringing 17 producers to Paris at the Alentejo Wines stand and a selection representative of the diversity, quality and identity of the region's wines," the commission said.
The president of the CVRA, Luís Sequeira, emphasised that this presence "reflects a clear and sustained ambition to establish the Alentejo in foreign markets".
"Participation in Wine Paris is part of a clear strategy for international recognition defined in the Alentejo Wines Strategic Plan 2026-2031," he said.
The wine commission's goal, as set out in this plan, is to "increase exports from the current 20 million litres to 40 million litres by 2031, doubling the region's exports," he recalled.
Luís Sequeira stated that the CVRA intends to "strengthen the presence of Alentejo wines in international markets, enhance the diversity of the region's territory and create commercial opportunities for producers in new markets".
Throughout the three days of the event, the Alentejo Wines stand will have an area dedicated to free tasting, where 17 different wines will be presented daily — one from each producer.
This approach was "designed to highlight the plurality of grape varieties, styles and expressions of the Alentejo region, reinforcing the image of the region as a territory of diversity," explained the CVRA.
The producers present at Wine Paris are Azamor Wines, Adega de Juromenha, Dona Dorinda Organic Wines, Dona Maria - Júlio Bastos, Família Margaça, Herdade da Calada, Herdade da Lisboa, Herdade das Servas, Herdade do Arrepiado Velho and Herdade do Sobroso.
Herdade da Mingorra, Ímpar Wines, Monte da Raposinha, Santa Vitória, Sovibor, Tiago Cabaço Winery and Torre de Palma are the region's other “ambassadors” in the French capital.
For the regional wine commission, the participation of Alentejo Wines in this event "reinforces not only the consolidation of commercial relations and the opening of new markets, but also the affirmation of the region as an essential reference in the global wine scene".
Created in 1989, the CVRA is responsible for protecting and defending the Alentejo Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) and the Alentejano Geographical Indication, certifying and controlling origin and quality, and promoting and fostering sustainability.
In Portugal, the Alentejo is the leader in certified wines, accounting for around 40% of total sales in a universe of 14 wine regions.
With a vineyard area of 23,300 hectares, 30% of its production is exported to five main destinations: Brazil, Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom and Poland.
The region, one of only two in the world that produces Vinho de Talha (wines that speak of an ancestral culture of vineyards and wine, vinified in ancient clay pots (talhas) for over 2,000 years), is the holder of the Alentejo Wine Sustainability Programme, which aims to improve practices used in vineyards and wineries, producing quality grapes and wine that are economically viable.
