Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Warning of email scam using page similar to Autenticação.Gov

Lisbon, Jan. 20, 2026 (Lusa) - The Attorney General's Office warned on Tuesday of the spread of an email scam that aims to obtain third-party bank details via a fraudulent website similar to the Autenticação.Gov platform.

In a statement, the PGR's Cybercrime Office explained that victims first receive a message regarding an alleged parking fine, which will increase if not paid within a certain number of days.

The message includes a “Pay online” button that redirects to “a fraudulent page that imitates the official page” of the Agency for Administrative Modernisation, the entity that manages the Autenticação.Gov platform.

On this misleading website, victims are asked to enter their telephone number, personal details and bank card details, "including the security verification code (usually referred to as CVS)".

"If the victim enters their bank card details on that fraudulent page, they are providing criminals with the information that allows them to make online purchases," adds the Cybercrime Office.

To make online purchases, the fraudulent platform asks those targeted by the scheme to enter the code sent by the bank's security system via SMS, which, if entered, allows the criminals to complete the transaction.

If you are a victim of this phishing attack, the Cybercrime Office recommends contacting your bank or other card issuer.

Autenticação.Gov is the Portuguese government's platform for identification, authentication, and digital signatures.
